Tom Kerridge – excerpt from the foreword to The Good Beer Guide 2021

The Great British pub is recognised around the world. It is something that cannot be replicated in any other country. Of course, many places serve beer, wine, spirits and food in different countries, but there is nothing like our pub. In France they have bistros, brasseries and a coffee culture. In Spain they have tapas and pintxos bars. In Italy, you have trattorias and pizzerias and in Greece, you have wonderful tavernas. All of these places have one common goal and that is serving great drinks and simple food with a warm welcome to a community. However, the one thing about the British pub that separates us, is real ale. Our brewing heritage varies from region to region. The passion and the heart and soul that goes into brewing is equal to the top wine makers, distillers, cheese makers, bakers, artisan chocolatiers or any other craft led hospitality producer. It is something we should be very proud of.

Real Heritage Pubs of the South East is the last piece in the puzzle for documenting and recording Heritage Pubs across the UK.

Discover South East England’s most traditional pubs through this unique guide, the latest in CAMRA’s best-selling series. It leads you to over a hundred examples around the region that still have interiors or internal features of real historical importance, ranging from unspoilt country delights and old coaching inns to cosy Victorian locals and little-known pubs from the inter-war and post-war periods. Illustrated with high-quality photography throughout, this book allows you to experience first-hand the pub history of the South East while doing your bit to help protect a vital part of the region’s heritage.

Cellarmanship – the only guide you will need.

The first edition of this title was published thirty years ago with the purpose of ensuring that anyone handling and serving real ale both professionally and for personal interest, was fully aware of the intricacies and skills in handling a live product.

Thirty years on and much has changed in the industry but the skills and understanding of how to keep, serve and sell real ale are now set out in a new and clearer format to enable both the old and the new to learn and refresh their training.

With a handy pullout poster and illustrations throughout this is a training manual that every cellarman should have!
